He scored in the 37th minute after Jude Bellingham began the move and Vinícius pulled the ball back from the byline. The goal took Mbappé to 13 in 23 appearances since joining Real Madrid, another sign of how quickly he had settled into the squad’s attacking structure.

Pachuca, meanwhile, arrived in the final after beating Botafogo 3-0 and edging past Al-Ahly on penalties. The Mexican side started energetically and created early chances, but Thibaut Courtois preserved Real’s lead when required. Once Madrid had the first goal, the match tilted toward the Spanish club’s control. Rodrygo’s finish eight minutes after the interval made that advantage more secure, and Vinícius converted a late penalty after Lucas Vázquez was brought down in the area.

The victory matters because it came in the first edition of FIFA’s renamed tournament. The old annual Club World Cup format is being replaced by a new 32-team competition scheduled to begin next summer, while the Intercontinental Cup now serves as a separate global prize. Real Madrid, with a history of success in the older Intercontinental Cup and multiple Club World Cups, added another trophy to a record that already places them at the centre of FIFA’s club landscape.

The report also notes that Real have now won a combined nine global titles.
