The report says a car struck a motorcycle head-on and then hit a second vehicle. Police and fire officials told G1 that 10 people were involved in total. Eight died at the scene and two were taken away with injuries. The dead included the two people on the motorcycle, two occupants of the Palio Weekend and four occupants of the Vectra. The outlet also said the Vectra was carrying five people and that one child was among the injured.
The article describes a chaotic and severe scene. One vehicle was found across the road with its front destroyed, another was left farther ahead badly damaged and the motorcycle was lying off the roadway. The road stayed closed for about four hours while responders cleared the wreckage and carried out initial investigations.
G1 said the Civil Police opened an inquiry to establish how the sequence of impacts unfolded. The report also notes that the exact road jurisdiction was disputed in the immediate aftermath. Police and civil police sources cited by the outlet said the crash occurred on BR-491, while fire officials and the concessionaire said the point was on BR-146. Either way, the crash happened in the same transition zone between the two federal highways.
The same report says the road closure created a queue of roughly 400 meters and prompted a large emergency response. EPR Vias do Café deployed inspection, rescue and towing teams, while military police and the municipal guard handled traffic control and scene security.
The case adds to a long list of deadly road crashes in Brazil involving mixed traffic, high-speed impact and secondary collisions at the response stage. In this case, the late-night timing, the number of vehicles and the additional impact from the van appear to have turned a road collision into a fatal mass-casualty event.
