# Four dead and five injured after head-on crash in Bolton
Police in Greater Manchester say four people were killed and five passengers injured in a head-on collision in Bolton, with investigators now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage. The crash happened at about 00:45 on Sunday on Wigan Road, where a taxi and a second car struck each other head-on.
Greater Manchester Police said the dead included three teenagers aged 18 to 19 and a man in his 50s. The drivers of both cars were among those who died. BBC reporting said the taxi was a dark Citroen and the other vehicle a red Seat.
The force has yet to formally identify the victims, but local funeral notices named the three teenagers as Muhammad Danyaal Asghar Ali, Farhan Patel and Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar, all from Bolton. The taxi driver was named as Masrob Ali, from Blackburn. Police have not confirmed those names, and the investigation into the crash is still under way.
Emergency crews had to use cutting equipment to remove people from the car, and five injured passengers were taken to hospital. Ch Insp Helen McCormick called it a devastating incident and said the scene was particularly challenging for emergency responders.
The crash has also revived local concern about road safety on that stretch of Wigan Road. Neelam Khan, who lives nearby, told BBC North West Tonight that debris was everywhere after the collision and said the aftermath was disturbing. She said she and her husband were considering moving to a quieter area because of the number of crashes they have seen there.
McCormick said the collision was a tragic reminder of the importance of road safety and added that Bolton has seen a big reduction in serious and fatal collisions, even though more work remains. Councillor Ayyub Patel said the community was shocked and devastated by the deaths.
