At least 18 people were taken to hospitals after a shooting at a party near Arcadia Lake in Edmond, Oklahoma, according to police and hospital officials. Authorities said the gunfire broke out around 9 p.m. on May 3, 2026, during a gathering of young people near the lake, about 13 miles north of Oklahoma City.
Edmond police said they were still searching for suspects on Monday. No arrests had been made. Officials also said it was not yet clear how many of the injured had actually been shot, underscoring how early the investigation remained and how few definitive answers were available in the first day after the incident.
The CBS News report said three of the injured were in critical condition. A hospital system spokesperson told CBS that ten people were at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City and three more were at Integris Health Edmond Hospital. Another health care source cited by The Associated Press said the victims it treated ranged in age from 16 to 30, which reinforces that the crowd was largely young adults and teenagers.
Police spokesperson Emily Ward described the situation as terrifying and said officers were working across the metro area to speak with victims and witnesses. That detail matters because it shows the investigation was not confined to the scene itself. The report said officers were trying to piece together what happened from a wide set of interviews and hospital contacts.
A witness, Jeremiah Smith, told The Associated Press that roughly 250 people had shown up for the party. He said trouble began after an argument between girls over boyfriends and then spread into chaos. That account is only one witness statement, but it helps explain how quickly a large social gathering can turn violent when a gun is introduced.
Police also said the party had been promoted on social media and drew a large crowd from across the Oklahoma City area. A flyer circulating afterward referred to a Sunday Funday event at a pavilion near the lake until midnight. The shooting reportedly happened in a heavily wooded area, which made the overnight response more difficult for investigators.
Arcadia Lake is normally known as a recreational area for fishing, boating, picnicking and camping. The violence there, in a suburban setting better associated with summer recreation than emergency rooms, is likely to intensify concern about spontaneous gatherings promoted online and the speed at which a crowd can form and fragment.
The central facts are still basic: multiple people were injured, hospital care was required, and police had not yet identified suspects. But the early details already point to a large and disordered scene that may take time to reconstruct.
