A search spanning Monaco and several European countries ended with the discovery of 39-year-old Anastasiia Berezovska in woodland outside Kyiv. She had been shot in the head and buried, Ukrainian authorities said. Two men now face group murder allegations, while investigators continue examining whether others participated in the separate explosive attack for which Berezovska was wanted.
Her body was reportedly located late during the evening of July 6. Information attributed to Ukraine's prosecutor general and SBU security agency links her return to the country with the killing. Officials say she crossed into Ukraine on July 1, then met the two suspects on a Kyiv-region road two days afterward and entered their vehicle.
One accused man serves in Ukraine's military intelligence directorate; the other formerly worked in law enforcement. Prosecutors charged both with intentional killing carried out together under an advance agreement. According to the SBU, the serving officer admitted killing Berezovska and named the second man. These remain allegations, and the supplied reports contain no judgment.
Investigators also found repeated payments from both suspects into Berezovska's cryptocurrency and conventional bank accounts, prompting scrutiny of whether they helped with the Monaco operation. At the former officer's residence, a basement contained tarpaulin, a bag, axes and a pickaxe. The prosecutor general explicitly said there was no proof that this room played any part in her death; released video was intended only to portray a suspect's profile.
The earlier case began on June 29 at a residential building in Monaco. Authorities suspect Berezovska left an explosive parcel by its entrance after monitoring the address for multiple days. Deputy prosecutor Morgan Raymond said she wore a male disguise during the operation. Shortly after 9 p.m., the package exploded as three individuals arrived, wounding everyone and leaving two seriously hurt.
Official material did not name those victims. Local accounts identified the alleged targets as property developer Vadym Yermolaiev together with his partner and their son, aged 13. Yermolaiev exchanged Ukrainian nationality for Cypriot citizenship in 2019 and has appeared under Ukrainian sanctions since 2023.
Police believed Berezovska escaped Monaco using a rented vehicle and passed through Italy and Germany. Interpol later circulated a red notice concerning accusations including attempted murder, conspiracy, and criminally putting an explosive on a public roadway.
Ukrainian and Monegasque authorities say they are coordinating as both inquiries continue. The evidence therefore describes intersecting investigations, not resolved responsibility: Berezovska was a suspect rather than a convicted bomber, and the two detained men are accused, not convicted, of murdering her.
