At least eight fatalities, two of them children, resulted from Israeli strikes in central and southern Gaza on June 29, hospital officials and emergency services reported. At least 20 other people were wounded in the incidents described across Deir al-Balah and the Khan Younis area.
In central Gaza, officials said a drone struck a tent in Deir al-Balah, killing three Palestinians. Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital identified them as Hassan al-Hanagra, his eight-year-old grandchild Malik Abu Shawish, and another man. Malik had been visiting his mother’s tent, and she was among seven people wounded, hospital officials said.
The Israeli military said that operation was aimed at a militant, but it did not immediately provide a name or say whether the intended person had died. The information available therefore did not establish which of the three fatalities Israel considered the target.
Near Khan Younis, Nasser Hospital said a strike following a warning call hit a tent in Al-Mawasi. A 23-year-old woman and her one-year-old daughter were killed. Another strike earlier in Qarara, northwest of the city, killed a 31-year-old man. The hospital said he had recently married and his wife was pregnant.
In a separate coastal incident in the same southern area, a strike on a tent housing displaced people killed two and wounded 13. Nasser Hospital and the Palestinian Red Crescent provided that account. A Red Crescent field facility in Al-Mawasi received the injured. The supplied report did not state that the Israeli military commented separately on each southern strike.
The deaths occurred despite a reduction in the heaviest combat after a ceasefire took effect in October. Gaza health officials put deaths from near-daily Israeli action since then at 1,045. More than 360 of those recorded were women and children. Israel said its operations targeted militants preparing attacks against troops holding more than 60% of Gaza. Militant action after the truce had killed five members of Israel’s military.
Gaza’s Health Ministry placed the broader Palestinian death toll from Israel’s campaign at more than 73,058, including post-ceasefire deaths. The ministry, part of the Hamas-led administration, does not separate civilians from militants in that total; its detailed casualty records are generally treated as reliable by United Nations agencies and independent specialists. The Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attack killed about 1,200 people in Israel and involved the taking of 251 hostages.
For June 29, the immediate reporting was based on named medical and rescue sources. The casualty figures, target claims and circumstances remained attributed to those institutions rather than presented as independently determined conclusions.
The eight reported deaths resulted from several separate attacks rather than one location. Medical officials supplied names for the Deir al-Balah victims and details for some southern fatalities, while the military offered only a limited target statement.
